Meghan McCain Finds It Hard To Date Post-2008 Campaign

John McCain's daughter Meghan opened up about her post-election love life -- or lack thereof -- in a blog post for The Daily Beast. "The election killed my personal life," McCain wrote. "OK, maybe killed is a bit of an exaggeration. But it does seem to be on life support."
The 24-year-old Columbia University graduate said, "Nothing kills my libido quite like discussing politics."And it's not just supporters of her dad's former rival, Barack Obama, who turn her off, but also those who voted for her father. "When it comes to my personal life, I don't want to date someone who idolizes my dad."
McCain said she can't escape the election when she's out on a date. She once dated someone who said the food she ordered "was a 'maverick choice' and proceeded to tell me, 'Wow, straight talking must run in the family.'"
Anyone that follows this blog for more than five minutes knows about my now famous Kindergarten Crush on John McCain's daughter Meghan who if we're putting our cards on the table was the one person you might actually feel bad for on the Republican side of the aisle after the election because while she says her and her dad don't see eye to eye on numerous political ideas at base she is a human being and she loves her father and whatever people think about McCain's politics he is someone's family and that ought to count.

Now let me make it perfectly clear I am NOT sorry her father lost the campaign at all. I'm sorry for any hurt feelings the rigors of a tough campaign might have revealed to her at the end of the election. Now that said, even though I like Meghan I can see why men might be reluctant to approach her. First off she's an ivy league grad. Secondly, her family's getting "arab money", LOL. Third off her dad is John Friggin' McCain. You're not going to measure up to her dad. Most women put ridiculous standards that guys have to meet before they take them seriously and unless you too have a similar degree of education, finances or can pull as an impressive array of familial lineage you probably have no shot with Meghan. I could be wrong. As a matter of fact, I HOPE I'm wrong because this woman is fine and if I bumped into her in some capacity in the forseeable future granting we were single I'd like to think I'd have a chance.
Anyway this whole story goes to show you never can tell.

Wednesday's Woman: Teairra Marie

Count me among the crowd that never really understood all the hate for Teairra Marie. Everytime I heard/hear somebody say something bad about her singing or her attitude or whatever else my reaction is always the same:

"Really"

Because to me there were always worse offenders in teenage bubble gum music than her. Way worse. I mean you're talking about a guy whose lived through some pretty awful music periods. Kelly Osbourne, Ashlee Simpson, Lil Mama, JoJo and you're hissing at Teairra Marie? I'm saying though, at least she can sing. At least she is pretty cute (and LEGAL!). Always struck me as a double standard to say she sucks but turn around and have Rihanna (the yoddler aka Female John Legend)on your iPod. How lame. Granted I'm not the preferred demographic for any of the record producers and bigwigs trying to package this music for mass consumption but it's all the same at the end of the day. The subject matter, the media blitzes, the formulas and the packaging are pretty much all practiced by all of them but for some reason Teairra Marie gets all the hate?

Seriously?

As talented and probably more so, as fine and probably more so than your average former teeny bopper and somehow became taboo because Jay-Z waived his hand? Let me tell you something, Rihanna is not the end all be all. Her songs are almost always annoying. She has a big forhead and her vanity is undeserved. I just don't get it (and probably shouldn't at my age) but such is the fickle nature of the pop music game which is why I don't and haven't consumed MTV pre-10PM programming since 2000.

But if I see more of Teairra Marie I just might have to. She looks good, has an album coming this year and if I get my way I probably might be watching more MTV (cringe) or worse *gulp* BET (cringe harder) but for all the right reasons.

Wednesday's Woman: Lolo Jones

Lolo Jones is by all measurements as magnificent a twenty-something as anyone that's walked (or more appropriately ran) this Earth in a long, long time.

It's clear as you gaze into her emerald eyes she's special. You recognize it when you see it even if you don't have the words to describe it; Whatever your religion is, somebody somewhere greater than ourselves had to put her together; And speaking of beliefs, Lolo is a person grounded in Christ and faith. She actively involves herself in Christian Ministry which in and of itself is highly commendable for her age.

Lolo recalls her life's hardships with ease and confidence. She talks about being homeless in high school and not having much past the dorm her scholarship afforded her in college and holidays passing when everyone went back to their homes and family gatherings and her staying with in that same dorm that she figured was better than anything she had waiting back on her; But she persevered nevertheless. She's a woman with the resolve to earn her degree, then after college working part-time so she could have time to prepare for the Beijing Olympics full-time. Anyway she tells the story better than me...

As fine as she is genuine, as genuine as she is talented, as talented as she is deserving, as deserving as she is honorable she's got to be somewhere in the top ten catches in single women in the country (how she's single right now makes you wonder what's going on with cats in the Big Easy). She's deserving of a more fitting proper definition of who she was than that of the less than expected outcome in her not placing in the Women's 100m Hurdles this past August. She worked harder than that. She sacrificed more than that. She's just so much more.

There's a lesson in her life somewhere though; Reminds me of something my uncle used to tell me...

'In every fairytale the giant usually doesn't go to the villages, the little people end up at the giants doorstep.

Translation
: You want something big go after it, big things just don't come to you.'

We still gonna hold you down Lolo even if you did go to LSU. Stay focused and God be with you.
