L

She lost.

She lost in the sense she can't ever walk in public.

She can't ever be someone's mother.

As far as your phone, break it. No one in it wants to know you or talk to you and if by some miracle of God someone does want to talk, they're going to clown you until you fall on the ground clutching yourself in a fetal position and die.

This is an L for the record books.

Soulful Sunday (w/ Special Commentary on Race)

Katrina taught us nothing after all.

Racial Polarization is as damning today as it was in the murky and glim aftermath of the worst natural catastrophe this country has ever witnessed.

We sat there in front of our televisions and ate all that the media fed us in picture and words and sounds in absolute horror and disbelief and with such an embarrassment that many folks had to turn the channel in a symbolic gesture akin to pushing away from the table as if we were saying we had seen and heard and had enough, as if things were going to be different from that point on.

All this madness cooked in poverty, fricasseed in incompetence, dooming geography and simmered in apathy for so long by a government that had long since stopped caring even before the Hurricane came but centered in race this story was fed to us 24 hours a day without end for the week of this Bayou tragedy and for a few months there after as if they were leftovers from the main feast just in case we hadn't had our fill of this disgusting truth concerning inequality the first go round. But somehow, someway the American body lacked the proper functioning organs to have digested all that we took in in late 2005 as once again our appetites for this kind of racial polarization rages on only this time it stares at us in the form of the inability of some in the Democratic Party (which slowly but surely is becoming the Demographic Party day to day, state to state) to accept the likely nominee and afford him all the support and political machinery that would otherwise be thrust upon him going into a sure to be hotly contested fierce upcoming general campaign.

If not race, then what major policy difference could there possibly be between two Democratic candidates whose ivy league backgrounds and stances are so similar on so many issues, that could lead many of one candidate's supporters to favor John McCain over Barack Obama in an election that could inexorably alter the fate of a generation as the balance of the Supreme Court, the future of our standing abroad and the need for new, more carefully thought out approaches to issues that we've been caught giving wrong answers to time and time again over the past decade all hang above us?

This is petty even by petty's standards. Because somebody doesn't physically look like me I won't support them and instead will toss my support behind someone whose politics doesn't look like me. Because that's what matters, fluff, not substance.

It's sad. It shows a real ignorance that damns rather than redeems at a time when redemption ought to be embraced rather than rejected.

People are moving en mass to the polls with a renewed since of vigor for the first time in a generation as politics is becoming a sport the nation has enthralled itself in. If these same new people are bringing with them the same old prejudices to the democratic process then never mind the new fervor and excitement the media purports they're bringing in I would just as much prefer they stayed apathetic towards the whole process as they were back in 2000.

This Nonsense Could Only Happen Inside The Black Community

Within a span of two weeks this little bastard stole his grandmother's car and whooped her ass. 7 year old Latarian Milton was quoted after stealing the car as to why he did it “because he wanted to do some hoodrat stuff with his friends”!

Milton’s grandmother, Vikkita Stratford, told WPBF that the 7-year-old took his mischievous activities to a new level Monday when she said he beat her up inside a Lake Park Wal-Mart.

According to Stratford, the problem began when Milton asked his grandmother for some chicken wings. When she refused, Milton walked over over to the counter and ordered them anyway.

Stratford said that when she confronted him about it, Milton just snapped.

“He just started hitting me — just started hitting me in front of the whole Wal-Mart. Every one in there was upset,” Stratford said.

Stratford told WPBF that Milton hit her stomach, legs and “wherever he could reach me.”

Riviera Beach police picked up Milton from his home and took him to an area hospital for a mental health evaluation Monday afternoon, WPBF reported. The 7-year-old can be held for up to 72 hours while he is evaluated by mental health officials.

Who Does This Resemble To You?

This chick was on American Idol a few years back and she didn't win it but she went fairly far. I remember thinking she was cute but way too young. Anyway her name is Lisa Tucker and she's 20 now and damn she reminds me of a certain other R&B star. You tell me who I'm thinking she looks like....

You tell me.

Charles Barkley's Daughter

This is disturbing. Very very disturbing.

Tuesday's Top Ten: Things That Stopped a Pick-Up Game When We Were Kids

Yeah it's 2 days late and at this moment this is more of a "Thursday's Top Ten" than Tuesday's but this list is the only ways you can stop or pause a pick-up basketball game in the midst of it. Also I assigned a threat of each # of ending the game based on the likelihood of it occurring.

  1. When the ball rolls in bird/dog shit or spit. Nobody wants to touch it. The basketball might as well have AIDS as far as kids are concerned with it and there's a good chance that your shirt is ruined if it takes a funky bounce off the rim and hits you anywhere and you will be forever linked to doo-doo and adopt that nickname or some variation of it. Unless it rained in the past 24 hours and there's a puddle to wipe the ball off in somewhere on the court or in the street that's just enough to stop a pick-up game. Threat:2.7/10
  2. When you're not paying attention and catch a gnat in your eye. It always feels cold on your eyeball and it doesn't die immediately so you have to suffer through it moving for ten minutes or so then you have to contort your eyeball until it reaches the corner of your eye and you can pick it out. Gnats are generally some of the biggest haters in nature. They can't stand you outside doing your thing. Taking a walk with your girl. Gnats hate. Work up a sweat playing basketball. Gnats hate. Mow your lawn. Gnats hate. Threat: 6.4/10
  3. Loose Dog, most probably from the aforementioned dog in #1's scenario. There's really nothing you can do about this. There's no measure of protection from the threat of loose German Sheppard. You just always have to have your head on a swivel. If you can watch for the pick and roll, you cant watch for the pit bull. Most often someone in the group spots the dog before it's too late and the dog never makes it onto the court before someone notices it. Usually you can see the dog wandering aimlessly down the street with no particular plans and start to make moves before he makes moves on you. Threat: 3.0/10
  4. Lightning. Rain does not stop a basketball game. Rain doesn't do shit but make your jumper that much prettier when you make a shot because of the moisture it gives the net. Thunder changes the entire equation though. The threat of electrocution creates a mass exodus for most sane people. Most people aren't willing to die over a game of 21. Water is a conductor of electricity. If it's raining than everything gets wet. If everything is wet than everything is fair game to the thunder. Lightning don't give a shit. Plus the tallest thing outside usually is at the most risk of direct lightning contact. Threat 3.2/10
  5. Attractive Girl Walks By. If it's just hot enough and the testosterone is flowing just right and the girl throws just enough of a glance the court's way in an acknowledgment that you all exist, the game will pause as one of you will automatically go caveman in pursuit of the fairer sex. Threat 5.9/10
  6. Fight. A basketball game is fertile ground for altercation. Competition, heat, physicality, trash talk and emotion. A perfect storm for a fit of madness. Threat 7.8/10
  7. Fatigue. Most pickup games I've been apart of didn't have an exit strategy. It was Iraq with a basketball. They don't set up points, or a number to reach before it's over. None of that. You just play so long that the score doesn't matter. Nobody keeps track of that kind of thing. Since there is no such thing as an injury in pick-up ball, fatigue has to be the thing that stops it. Threat 9.7/10
  8. Flat Ball. Basketballs are tricky. You might start a game and then after a few possessions realize the ball isn't bouncing off the pavement as hard as it once did but you can make adjustments but after a while the more the ball fails to make it up to your hand as you dribble it the more you resign to the fact that this sucks and you don't care to finish up. Threat 3.8/10
  9. Darkness. When Charlie Murphy creeps up in the game and you can no longer see the hoop the game is over. If you're just shooting just to shoot and you have no idea where the goal is and if you're even making the shots and you're judging if you're making shots based on sounds then you need to quit the game. There's a reason Stevie Wonder (speaking of Stevie, if he dies are there any more famous blind people left?) isn't posting up guys in the paint. You can't play basketball based on sounds. Threat 10/10
  10. When the basketball gets a titty because it got ran over or somebody slams it to hard on the pavement. It's impossible to dribble a ball with a titty. You might as well be dribbling a football. This is death to a game. Threat 10/10

Wednesday's Woman: Katie Melua

She's under the radar is an understatement and a shame. She's a singer from the across the pond and to the best of my knowledge she hasn't made a big splash on the scene yet but regardless of her talent she's fine.

This woman is pure. If she does anything noteworthy or for that matter anything I'll keep you guys updated. If she burps I'll send someone to catch it in a Ziploc bag, seal it off and have some raffle on His Aura Was Orange.

Tuesday's Top Ten (Coming up...)
